The President of the Provincial Government visits Cárnicas Chica, adhered to Degusta Jaén initiative

JAÉN.- The President of the Provincial Government, Francisco Reyes, accompanied by the Deputy for Agriculture, Livestock and Environment, María Angustias Velasco, today visited the facilities that Cárnicas Chica has in the capital of Jaén. The company is part of the Degusta Jaén initiative and has the second largest industrial slaughterhouse in the whole of Andalusia, which is able to process up to 1,000 lambs per day. Reyes has pointed out the company as "an absolute reference" for the agri-food sector in Jaén, "key to the wealth and employment of the province, are small and medium-sized enterprises that offer proximity, quality and traditional processing, which are a guarantee of health".

Cárnicas Chica, where over thirty people work, sells kid, lamb, suckling lamb and suckling pig in a multitude of formats: in protective atmosphere-packing, frozen or vacuum-packed. They currently have six brands: Cordesur, Cabrisur, Cárnicas J. Chica Halaal, Natusur, Ecocordesur and Summun del Sur. The latter was recently awarded prizes by Degusta Jaén, where they received a second prize in the category of Best Product for their leg of braised kid, made according to traditional recipes. The Jaén firm distributes these products all over Spain, where they work with most of the big national chains, as well as in Portugal, Italy, Bulgaria and Croatia.

The President of the Provincial Government has emphasized Cárnicas Chica's involvement in Degusta Jaén, within which they have participated in various trade missions or in the campaign 12 months, 12 flavors, developed in collaboration with the Parador de Jaén. Cárnicas Chica also has its own space on the web www.degustajaen.com and has obtained the Degusta Jaén Calidad seal, that already distinguishes more than 800 products manufactured in the province of Jaén.

Reyes underlined the importance of the Degusta Jaén initiative as a "support platform for the promotion and marketing of a sector that currently generates more than 20,000 direct and indirect jobs in small and medium-sized enterprises that, in many cases, are located in rural settings". Since its launch in 2013, this strategy has included holding over 90 provincial shows dedicated to specific products such as cherries, strawberries, honey, breva figs, peachs, etc. (the III Provincial Cherry Show is under development) over twenty local produce markets, with presence at large events, such as Expoliva, Bluescazorla or the Festival del Aire. Additionally, it has also taken the variety of agri-food production to cities outside the province, such as Barcelona, Seville, Madrid, Granada or Alcoy.
