Francisco Reyes ha entregado estos galardones a Productos Campos, el espárrago de Congana, Summun del Sur, de Cárnicas Chica, la tienda Tierras Vivas, el chef Alfonso Esquinas y el restaurante Cantina la Estación
The President of the Provincial Government, Francisco Reyes, accompanied by the Deputy for Agriculture, Livestock and Environment, María Angustias Velasco, has given out the first Degusta Jaén awards, which recognise the initiatives, people and organizations linked to the agri-food sector in the province which stand out in their area of action. The company Productos Campos, Congana asparragus, the Summum del Sur product from Cárnicas Chica, the Tierras Vivas shop, the Cantina La Estación restaurant, and chef Alfonso Esquinas have all been given prizes. "The winners have been selected from among the 58 proposals submitted to this edition, from which the jury has particularly appreciated the commitment to offer a unique high-quality product that is identified by the consumer as a product which is local, made in our land", Reyes underlined.
In this sense, the President of the Provincial Government firmly stressed "the implication and good work of the agri-food businesses" to make the Degusta Jaén initiative possible. "(An initiative) that over 160 companies have joined, as well as meaning that over 90 provincial shows have been carried out, dedicated to products such as the cherry, the strawberry, honey, breva figs or peaches, as well as twenty local markets". Moreover, Reyes has reminded us that since its launch, Degusta Jaén has been present in important promotional events dedicated to the agri-food industry, the brandDegusta Jaén Calidad has been created and these awards have been organized.
Productos Campos, from Arjona, has been awarded in the Best Company category for "their important generation of work places and for having consolidated the agri-food brand both national and internationally", remarked Reyes. Rosario Campos, representative of the company, was greatly appreciative of the award and reminded us of her company's goal of innovation and quality "without forgetting our essence, nor our tradition".
In the Best Product category, the award was for the asparagus produced by Congana , a company from Bedmar y Garcíez that has worked on the "cultivation, packaging and export here, in the Natural Park, of a product that is an alternative to olives", said the President of the Provincial Government, who presented the award to María García. For García this prize represents "recognition of the effort for implementing an alternative crop to olives, that will give people work in Bedmar y Garcíez in the slower months". She also thanked the whole team at the company.
Alongside Congana, the company Cárnicas Chica from Jaén was also awarded a prize for Best Product for their Summum del Sur, a braised leg of kid. José Manuel Chica received the award from Francisco Reyes. "We have created a totally natural product, developed in the purest style of yesteryear", he pointed out in order to recall the evolution that this meat company has experienced over three generations and that has been based "on quality, reliability and a lot of sacrifice".
The Tierras Vivas shop, in Jaén, won an award in the Best Establishment category. "The first ecological shop in the capital, from where they not only sell ecological products produced in the province, they also encourage their use through tasting sessions and workshops", Francisco Reyes pointed out. Lorenza Olivares received the award, thanking the consumers and ecological farmers, whose work she praised especially. At Tierras Vivas, "we try to make the food we put on the table locally sourced, made with passion, feeling and heart", she told the press.
The category of Best Chef went to the chef Alfonso Esquinas, from Quesada, who is in charge of the kitchen at Restaurante & Bistró Casa Alfonso, located in Cazorla, for "his use of locally produced natural products, to provide the best of Jaén gastronomy to his diners", pointed out Francisco Reyes. Esquinas received his award and stated that he is grateful to his team and his family, as well as to the Provincial Government.
Lastly, the Cantina de la Estación, in Úbeda, received the award for Best Restaurant due to "the creation of a singular, unique and quality restaurant establishment, just like the dishes and products that make up its menu", said the President of the Provincial Government, that presented the prize to Montserrat de la Torre and Antonio Cristofani. "Thanks to my family and the team for the effort that they put in to make us work 25 hours a day", said Cristofani.
